Chula Vista employees are getting raises after reaching an agreement with the Chula Vista City Council on Tuesday.
The raises will take effect through 2026, with employees seeing an initial bump of at least 5%. They will then see 5% increases again in July of 2025 and 2026. City employees who do not belong to ACE will also see similar raises.
The city estimates the fiscal impact for the current year to be about $3 million.
The agreement was struck between the City Council and the Association of Chula Vista Employees. ACE’s contract with the city expired June 30 and negotiations had been ongoing for three months.
Earlier this month, dozens of ACE members showed up to demand higher wages from the City Council. The employees highlighted the importance of their work to city services and said that their wages had not kept up with inflation.
ACE President Nicole Hobson made the case that cost of living rose significantly over the past four years, but wages had not.
ACE has more than 400 members from different job classifications, such as public works, police development services, animal care and finance, among others, according to its website.

This brief came from notes taken by Hally De Groot, a San Diego Documenter, at a Chula Vista City Council meeting this month. The Documenters program trains and pays community members to document what happens at public meetings. Read more about the program here.
