The College Area Community Planning Group postponed a vote last month on whether to support a proposal for an opportunity to expand parking at the College-Rolando Library.
The proposal, Chair Tom Silva explained, was postponed partly due to a lack of official action by the parties involved. The expanded space would make available approximately 290 feet for two-hour parking for about 14 cars along Reservoir Drive near Montezuma Road.
The College Area Community Planning Group is scheduled to meet again Dec. 9.
The planning group also voted to support a proposal by the “Say No to Clay” group, which successfully advocated renaming Henry Clay Elementary in Rolando after Bertha Pendleton. The Say No to Clay group is looking to change the name of the adjacent joint-use park.
The group, now working with the Department of Parks and Recreation, cited Pendleton’s struggles against adversity and her achievement in becoming San Diego’s first African-American and first female superintendent. It also highlighted Henry Clay’s support of compromises that sustained slavery.
