Dozens of new housing units could be coming to Barrio Logan under a proposed project on National Avenue.
Developers are seeking a coastal development permit to build a four-story, 73-apartment building that would replace an industrial warehouse at 1864 National Ave. The project would include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, with 11 of them designated as affordable.
Leasing space, recreational areas, rooftop amenities and landscaping are also planned for the development.
Representatives of the Barrio Logan Community Planning Group voted 6-2, with one member abstaining, to support the project during a meeting last month. The group provides the city of San Diego input on projects and other planning decisions.
Some raised concerns about the project, including the potential impact on the area’s already limited parking.
The city’s Development Services Department is reviewing the project and will decide whether to approve the request for a coastal development permit.
A project representative at the planning group meeting said construction would take more than three years to complete.
